About Us

Deborah Giraud
Deborah Giraud - Founder

My name is Deborah Giraud and I live in San Diego with my husband Jerry, my 14 year old daughter Maria, a dog named Lady and about 23 birds. I was a legal secretary for many years, but always had the entrepreneurial spirit. The law does not allow much time for creativity, however.

In 1999, I was forced to quit working because I had become disabled with fibromyalgia. It's amazing how a negative can sometimes turn into a positive. Being away from the law allowed my creative juices to flow.

Sunflower Organics and Ambrosia were born out of the Y2K scare. I wanted a food source that would be highly nutritious but would not require refrigeration—just in case. Someone I mentioned this to said I should try combining honey with bee pollen, as no bacteria will grow in honey and it will keep the bee pollen fresh. I did, and it was delicious.

After January 1, 2000 came and went and it was obvious that The End Of The World As We Know It would not take place, I bought a professional mixer and whipped up a fabulous batch of honey and bee pollen. I decided that I had come upon a wonderful idea for a food product that the buying public would enjoy. I started selling Ambrosia at local farmers' markets here in San Diego with great success.

In Greek mythology, the Gods ate a combination of honey and bee pollen which they referred to as Ambrosia (food of the Gods). I decided Ambrosia would be a perfect name for my product. Ambrosia is now in seven stores in California and I hope to be in many more in the coming years.

HoneyWe at Sunflower Organics take great pride in offering the public highly nutritious products that contain, whenever possible, certified organic or wildcrafted ingredients. We use only certified organic Lehua Honey and Christmas Berry Honey from the Island of Hawaii in Hawaii. No chemicals whatsoever are used in the processing of our honey. Hawaii is the only place in the world where the bees are not infected with the varroa and tracheal mites, which are only eliminated with the aggressive use of chemicals.
